This quilt has got its name from a bright star called Capella. My idea was to make a quilt for my sewing room over the wooden bench. The square is a good shape because the back is so high. Because I already have several pillows of the same color, blue was a clear choice. I added some green to get more variation.
I made a pattern of Capella and you can find it from Etsy (also from the sidebar). There are three sizes: S 45" x45" M 54" x 54" L 63" x 63".
Sewing is easy if paper piecing is familiar (stars). Making a smooth gradient is the most challenging part. Quilting is made by Töölön Tilkkupaja. A quilting thread is light turquoise because it brings some color to the center but looks nice on the darker parts too.
I used huge pile of scraps but I also cut squares from bigger fabrics to get more options for making the layout. For this quilt I used about 50 different fabrics. You can make it work with 30 fabrics but the more the better.
I usually make quite narrow bindings. This binding is quite dark so it doesn't pop up too much. I have made another, red version of this pattern too but I make another post about it when I have taken some more pictures of it. Happy weekend!

My traditional Christmas pillow for 2021 "Festive Spruce" is finished. This year the pillow is paper pieced. Because I have quite many Christmas tree pillows already, I wanted to make a smaller one this year. There has to be space to sit on the couches.
If you want to try this #festivespruce pattern, you can download it from the sidebar under the "free patterns" button. One spruce block finished size is 3 1/2" x 8". I added 2" strips to all edges to make it a little bigger.
Pom poms in the corners are felt. I think Elmo dog might be too interested in those and I have to remove them. I thought to add pearls, stitches or stars but decided to keep it simple after all.

I made a pillow version out of my Diamond in Diamond Quilt pattern. You see the quilt in the previous post. It was fairly quick to make but I got to play with shapes and colors. The pattern for this can be found here. At first I was thinking about making this entirely out of solids but I felt like it needed something more so I added prints too. The colors are strong but I think that they look really good.
The diamonds could be turned the other way around as well so that the smaller diamond gets a bigger role. Perhaps I'll make one like that at some point.
I like the planning step with blocks where I start seeing the end result more clearly. It was fun making this pillow. I have a one or two pillows with similar colors so they might end up in the group picture at some point.
Thank you to you all who have purchased the pattern, it makes me very happy!

Tämän työn nimi on "Diamond in Diamond Quilt".
